Hoshino Naoki (星野 直樹), defendant, International Military Tribunal for the Far East


Born 10 April 1892, died 26 January 1978. Graduated Law College, Tokyo Imperial University (March 1917); Commissioner, Finance Ministry of Manchoukuo (July 1932); Chief of General Affairs, Finance Ministry of Manchoukuo (July 1934); Vice Chief of Finance Ministry of Manchoukuo (June 1936); Chief of Bureau of General Affairs, National Affairs Office, Manchoukuo (December 1936); President, Cabinet Planning Board (22 July 1940 — 4 April 1941); State Minister, Second Konoe Cabinet (22 July 1940 — 4 April 1941); appointed to House of Peers, Imperial Diet (April 1941); Chief of Cabinet Secretariat, Tojo Cabinet (18 October 1941 — 21 July 1944). Arrested 1 December 1945; designated war criminal by U.S. Charged on forty-five counts (reduced to nine), found guilty on five counts; sentenced to life imprisonment, paroled in 1955, unconditionally released in 1958.
