KIDD KOICHI, Marquis. Born 18 July 1889; died 6 April 1977. Graduated Law College, Kyoto Imperial University (February 1915); succeeded to Peerage, entered House of Peers (August 1917); Chief Secretary, Lord Keeper of the Privy Seal (Oct. 1930 — Oct. 1937); Education Minister, First Konoe Cabinet (22 October 1937 — 26 May 1938); Welfare Minister, First Konoe Cabinet (11 January 1938 — 4 January 1939); Home Minister, Hiranuma Cabinet (5 January 1939 — 29 August 1939); Lord Keeper of the Privy Seal [Naidaijin] (1 June 1940 — 24 Nov. 1945). Arrested 6 December 1945; designated war criminal by U.S; appeared as defense witness at IMTFE. Charged on fifty-four counts (reduced to ten), found guilty on five counts; sentenced to life imprisonment, paroled in 1955, unconditionally released in 1958.
