Kenko Shimbun

Kenko Shimbun (Japanese for “healthy newspaper”) was the newspaper for the U.S. Naval Hospital, Yokosuka, Japan. It is now a quarterly magazine.

The hospital was founded as an Imperial Japanese Navy hospital in 1881, and was rebuilt after the earthquake and fire of the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923. US forces occupied the hospital in September 1945, and established it as a formal US Naval Hospital in September 1950.

A new hospital was built by the Japanese government for the U.S. Navy and opened in February 1981. The newspaper served as a communications channel for staff at the hospital.
