Parallels is a safe, secure way to run Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8, Chrome OS, Linux, and several other operating systems on your Mac. Setup is easy, and the ability to clone a virtual machine for experiments makes it far easier and safer than conducting experiments on “real” Windows and Linux machines.

Update

Much has happened since the release of Parallels 8. It is now up to Parallels 13, which supports macOS High Sierra and Windows 10, as well as older versions of MacOS, Windows, Linux, and various other things. For example, I routinely run Windows 10 (in 64-bit mode as well as a separate installation of Windows 10 in 32-bit mode), Windows 7, various flavors of Linux, and older versions of macOS, all user macOS 10.13 High Sierra.
